One highlight of the annual Shinglehouse Community Festival was the traditional "battle of the barrel," pitting several area fire departments in a tournament-style competition. Fittingly, Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department took first place honors. Here, Eldred (right) mounts a steady attack to beat Westons Mills, N.Y., for second place. Music, games, food, educational booths, a parade and fireworks highlighted the Independence Day holiday tradition.
