Softball all-stars continue success

Potter-McKean is rolling in the Little League Softball playoffs for 9- and 10-year-olds, hoping to earn a berth in the state finals later this month.
On Thursday night in Austin, P-M (5-0) returned from a sixday layoff to pound Southern Tioga, 22-10, in the Pa. District 15 final round. Jesse Riedmiller had five RBI and an inside-thepark home run for the winners. Keirsten Counts had four hits and three RBI. Rebecca Lathrop, Mecedes Shupe and Hannah Glover had three hits each. Pitchers Shupe and Glover overcame control problems (16 walks) to combine on a four-hitter.
Last Friday, P-M (4-0) used a six-run third inning for a cushion in scoring a 14-4 win at Troy. Counts allowed just four hits and overcame six walks, while fanning six, to pick up the win. She had a tworun double during the third-inning outburst.
Last Thursday on the Austin diamond, Potter-McKean exploded for a 32-8 shellacking of Canton. Shupe had five hits, while Glover and Counts added four hits apiece and Riedmiller had three hits for the winners. Shupe was the winning pitcher. Kaylee Brooks worked the final frame.
On June 2, Potter-McKean held off a determined Wellsboro team on the Austin field, 10-7. Counts' grand-slam home run was the big offensive blow. Shupe had two hits and an RBI. Glover was the winning pitcher, fanning seven.
On June 30 in Mansfield, PM opened the playoffs by taking care of Southern Tioga, 21- 6. Counts had three hits and four RBI, while Brooks cracked three hits and drove in a pair. Lathrop added two hits and two RBI. Glover drove in three runs. Counts was the willing pitcher, striking out nine.
Potter-McKean is back in action Monday night in Austin. Opponent is undetermined.
