With restaurants in Emporium and Port Allegany, David and Marlene Smith, owners of Smith's Pizza Palace Plus, have been to several competitions over the past two years, making a name for themselves in the pizza-making community. Most recently, the Smiths have picked up a sponsor. Sysco of Jamestown, N.Y., their business's primary food supplier, recently signed on. Sysco also helped to recruit Arrezzio, Enterprise Folding Box Co., Fiorucci, Block & Barrel, and Tyson as supporting sponsors. They'll get some media exposure and advertising, while helping the Smiths cover traveling expenses. In September, David Smith (center) will be competing in Orlando, Fla.., and Atlantic City, N.J. Other competitions will be held in Columbus, Ohio; Las Vegas Nev., and Naples, Italy. Smith is shown with Sysco President Vern Wetmore (right) and sales representative Rob Maynard.
