Cooperstown for Hetrick! Coudersport's Zach Hetrick is spending his summer at the epicenter of baseball -- Cooperstown, N.Y. As part of his studies at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Hetrick is serving an internship at the Cooperstown Dreams Park. Over a 12-week period, boys and girls on dozens of teams are spending a week at the massive baseball complex. They play under the lights in a tournament setting and receive awards at the end of the week. Teams from all over the nation and some other countries compete, with college baseball players such as Hetrick and three of his Pitt-Bradford teammates assisting. Hetrick is the son of John and Susan Hetrick. His father was a professional baseball player with the Detroit Tigers organization. Now in its 12th year, Cooperstown Dreams Park will accommodate some 1,050 teams this summer, concluding on Labor Day weekend. Olean, N.Y., native Dan Magnano is director of baseball operations at the complex, which was founded by his uncle, Lou Presutti, also of Olean. Dreams Park is high-tech, with each team guaranteed at least one "webcasted" game that can be accessed by any computer hooked to the Internet. |
