Big Alle-Catt game Sunday

Emporium can take another step toward a repeat Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League championship on Sunday, when rival Port Allegany comes to the Portage Township diamond on Sizerville Road for a big game (2:00).

The Cats (12-1) are coming off another convincing victory, taking care of Olean AOH, 10- 2, last weekend. Ryan Bresslin pitched eight solid innings, scattering eight hits and fanning nine. Cameron Clingan worked the ninth.

Paul Baker clouted another home run and added a single. Drew Tompkins stroked a pair of doubles. Clingan chipped in with a double and a single. Ken Meyer and Rick Uber each had two singles.

The game was more interesting than the final score may suggest. Olean carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth before Emporium's bats came to life with a seven-run outburst. Baker's two-run shot in the fifth made it 9-1.

Port(11-2) is no pushover. The visitors are on a win streak, including a 15-2 drubbing of Crosby last weekend. Emporium won an earlier slugfest with Port Allegany, 16-12.

Sunday's game closes out the regular season and an Emporium victory would seal another Alle-Catt Eastern Division crown. Playoff schedule will be announced.
