Potter County Fair opens Sunday
Entertainment for the young and not-so-young will highlight the annual Potter County Fair, which opens on Sunday and continues through Saturday, Aug. 4, at Millport. There is no charge for admission or parking.
There will be free music each night at the grandstand: Monday, Country Fever; Tuesday, Brother Dietze and the Dixie Boys; Wednesday, Country Gold; Thursday, Happy Days; Friday, Kelly Mountain Boys; Saturday, Burnin' Hills Band, followed by fireworks at 10:00.
A carnival will operate all seven nights, with matinees from 1:00 to 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
As always, agriculture will be in the spotlight. In addition to the popular livestock option and 4-H contests, there will be competition for the best dairy cows, beef cows, sheep, swine, rabbits, horses and goats. Top entries for hay-grain, vegetables, fruits and nuts, home and dairy products and floral exhibits will also be honored.
Needlework, textile, painting, photography, apiary and maple product contests return this year, as do the decorating and lawn tractor contests.

Candidates for Potter County Fair Queen are Naomi Barker, Genesee; Sadie Cole and Hillary Wilson, both from Shinglehouse. Crowning ceremony will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 8:00 p.m. The 2006 Potter County Fair Queen, Jessi Cornell, will crown her successor.
