Pet show, live music, others planned

Who knows what kinds of animals will be on parade at this year's Cameron County Fair Pet Show? The event will take place at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday with "Pets on Parade" and judging. You can enter your dog, cat, iguana, ferret, hamster, or you name it!

Ribbons will be awarded for biggest pet, ugliest, prettiest, fastest, slowest, most unusual, and other categories. The Pet Show, operated by the 4-H organization, is open to anyone age 16 and under.

Honor Emergency Services

Those dedicated men and women who sacrifice so much of their time and talents in service to others will be spotlighted on Tuesday during Emergency Volunteer Appreciation Night at the Cameron County Fair.

Come out and show your support for these special people. Emergency services equipment will be on display and information on public safety will be available. At 5:30, volunteers will square off for the always enjoyable "Battle of the Barrel."

Old Skool plays Friday

Local rock band Old Skool takes the stage on Friday night at the Cameron County Fair.

Founding members Sherman Bloom (lead vocals) and Rick Moate (rhythm guitar) have been the backbone of the group since it was started in 2004. Old Skool has a repertoire of about 45 songs, including four originals. Other members of Old Skool are Art Shultz, lead guitar; Doug Park, bass, and Cliff Collins, drums.

Try your luck

There are several audienceparticipation events scheduled for the 2007 Cameron County Fair.

If horseshoe pitching, baking, needlecraft or industrial arts aren't your cup of tea, then what about root beer chugging, hot dog eating, milk chugging or bubblegum blowing? Or, you can try watermelon seed spitting or your best karaoke imitation of famous musicians.

Prizes will be awarded. See the schedule of events for times and dates.

His lips are sealed

You won't hear a peep out of Howard Mincone as he strolls the Cameron County Fairgounds Wednesday and Thursday nights, but you'll still find him to be entertaining.

He's the "Mime to Amaze," and he'll entertain with juggling and other feats of silent but fascinating entertainment.

Look for Mincone Wednesday and Thursday nights.
