LIFE IN FEDERAL PRISON
RIGASES JAILED IN FCI BUTNER
Inmates required to work, are minimally paid

Inmates at the low-security prison in the Federal Correctional Complex at Butner, N.C., are required to work an average of seven hours a day if their health allows.

Assignments for inmates in the dormitory-style prison run the gamut from groundskeeping and painting to kitchen work and warehouse duty.

"If an inmate is deemed inappropriate for work because of age or medical condition, he would not be given a work assignment," according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman.

Inmates earn between 12 and 40 cents per hour. Butner is located about 45 miles northwest of Raleigh. The complex also has two mediumsecurity facilities. The medical facility where John Rigas is staying houses about 940 inmates.

Visitation rights in a federal prison are strictly limited. Inmates are permitted to receive mail. The Rigases can be reached at either John J. Rigas 53983- 054 or Timothy J. Rigas 53982-054, followed by this address: FCI Butner Low, Federal Correctional Institution, P. O. Box 999, Butner NC 27509.
