Marilyn Norek

Marilyn Lou Williams Norek, of Austin, died Thursday (Aug. 9, 2007). She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

A resident of Youngsville, N.C., she was born in Coudersport, the daughter of the late Donald D. and Hattie Peno Williams. She was married for 45 years to Stanley A. Norek. They are the parents of two children, Amy Norek Jones (Jeffrey) of Raleigh, N.C. and Gary A.W. Norek of Alexandria, Va.

Mrs. Norek was educated as a radiology technician and later as a medical secretary, and worked last at York OB/BYN Associates in York. Upon retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Norek moved to Youngsville, N.C., to enjoy more fully the lives of their grandchildren: Philip, Emily and Patrick Jones.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Wake Forest, N.C., and was active in a ministry which sews burial gowns for children born prematurely. When in Pennsylvania, she worshipped at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Austin. Throughout her life, she shared with those around her love of gardening, cooking and sewing.

Mrs. Norek is survived by a brother, Roger A. Williams; an uncle, Fred Peno of Coudersport; and an aunt, Louise Peno of Austin. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Gary Williams.

A Mass of Celebration was held at St. Augustine's Church in Austin, with Father Joseph Czarkowski officiating. Burial was in the private cemetery in Wharton Township. A memorial mass will be held at St. Catherine's in Wake Forest, N.C., at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Austin Baseball Association in memory of the Gary Williams Memorial Baseball Fields at Austin High School, or to Potter County Hospice.
