The comfort of home…
Felt Manor's assisted living wing set to open

Residents in the new assisted living facility at Guy & Mary Felt Manor will enjoy views of the surrounding, manicured grounds.
An open house and ribboncutting ceremony will be held on Sunday afternoon at the latest addition to downtown Emporium: the new assisted living wing at Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

The open house will follow the 2:45 p.m. ceremony. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Administrator Kim Jones and staff will provide guided tours and serve refreshments.

Construction has been completed. The center will open as soon as the Pa. Dept. of Public Welfare gives its go-ahead.

It will accommodate up to 10 residents, in addition to the 40- resident capacity of the current skilled care home.

Studies show that Cameron County's population requiring assisted living is under-served and is likely to grow.

Each resident at the Felt Manor addition has a personal bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. There's a common dining area and activity center, as well as laundry facilities and other services. An activity director is on staff to organize group events.

"It's a place of residence that's independent, but supervised," Jones said. "Our main goal is independence."

Felt Manor has also renovated the nursing home, adding a therapy room, relocating the nurses' station and expanding the dining area. Estimated price tag of the two projects was $3 million.

Swanson and Sons of Bradford was the general contractor. Architect was Habiterra, the same firm that designed the original structure.
