Emporium Alle-Catt baseball manager Ralph McKimm recently paid tribute to one of his players, Ryan Bresslin.
McKimm searched league record books and confirmed last week that Bresslin's June 24 performance in Derrick City was truly one for the books.
"Ryan had a four-home-run cycle that day," McKimm said. "He is evidently the only player in Alle-Catt history to do that."
The Alle-Catt League dates back almost 80 years.
By "cycle," McKimm refers to a grand slam homer, a threerun shot, a two-run homer and a solo blast. He also had a single and finished the game with 10 RBI.
Bresslin finished the season with a lusty batting average of .641, second to former collegiate star Kevin Gledhill's .655. Gledhill led the Cats with 11 home runs and 35 RBI. Among other team hitting leaders were Cameron Clingan (.577), Drew Tompkins (.507) and Rick Uber (.500).
Bresslin was also one of the league's top pitchers, working 45-plus innings and allowing just six earned runs (0.93 ERA), while striking out 52.
Defending champion Emporium finished with a 14-3 record. Shinglehouse won the Alle-Catt championship with a victory over Kane in the title game.
