      Emporium Borough is taking steps to clean up unsightly neighborhoods by enforcing ordinances prohibiting debris on private property. Borough Council members discussed the crackdown at this week's meeting.

      Local interest in the "Neighborhood Watch" crime prevention and community activism campaign is growing. Most recently, Shippen Township Supervisor Phil Brown has taken the lead in an expanding effort that started in Emporium Borough and Sylvan Heights this summer.

Library hours announced
      Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library in Emporium recently resumed its regular hours. The library is now open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
