Neighborhood Watch moves forward
By James Moate Endeavor News

Local interest in the "Neighborhood Watch" crime prevention and community activism campaign is growing.

Most recently, Shippen Township Supervisor Phil Brown has taken the lead in an expanding effort that started in Emporium Borough and Sylvan Heights this summer.

Brown said he has contacted Pa. State Police Troop Scott Henry, stationed at the Mansfield barracks, who specializes in community policing activities. Brown wants to schedule a meeting for citizens from throughout Cameron County to hear what Trooper Henry has to offer and continue expansion of the Neighborhood Watch program to other communities.

Anyone interested in learning more about the campagn is encouraged to contact Brown at 486-1623.

Citizen interest in community policing has grown in response to a series of break-ins and other crimes that have caused unrest. Thefts of property, including prescription drugs, and vandalism have raised the ire of many residents.

Supervisor Brown's efforts come on the heels of a similar push being made by Emporium Police Chief Rufus Jones.

Additional information on the Neighborhood Watch campaign is available online at usaonwatch.org.
