Stream projects planned in Cameron County

Seven Cameron County streambanks are going to be reinforced to prevent erosion and protect water quality over the next several years.

It's part of a county/state partnership connected with the "Growing Greener" referendum approved by voters statewide in 2005.

The Cameron County Commissioners this week joined a six-county study to align the local work with Pa. Dept. of Environmental Protection requirements. Other counties involved are Potter, McKean, Elk, Clearfield and Jefferson. Cameron County's out-ofpocket cost for the study is $3,333.

Growing Greener provides $625 million statewide for environmental projects. Cameron qualified for $1 million in funding over a five-year period.

In other business, the commissioners:

--announced receipt of a $2,380 grant under the Help America Vote Act.

--granted a request from Emergency Management, Kevin Johnson, agreed to replace the Cameron County Emergency Management Agency with the Local Emergency Planning Committee for abatement and recovery in the event of a hazardous material emergency.

--reported on a teleconference they held with commissioners from Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties abount bond refinancing for the financially troubled Industrial Technological Education Center.
