A long-time community volunteer in Potter County is recovering from serious injuries suffered in a twovehicle crash just west of Coudersport during a rainstorm on Sunday afternoon.
Fay Wood, 65, of Ulysses was eastbound in a pickup truck when a westbound flatbed trailer being hauled by an Erie driver swerved into her lane on "cemetery curve," striking the pickup and forcing it off the road.
Wood had to be extricated from the wreckage and was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. She was then flown by medical helicopter to Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Charged with DUI
An Emporium man, Casey S. Ullman, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on the wrong side of the road for an incident occuring on Third Street in the borough.
Borough police say Ullman drove into the oncoming lane and forced a police officer to swerve off the road. He was taken for testing at Elk Regional Health Center.
Rifle stolen
Someone stole a gun and several other items from a seasonal residence east of Coudersport.
State police from Denton Hill said burglars made off with a Marlin bolt-action rifle, two bottles of alcohol and two flashlights from a camp on Neefe Road in Sweden Township.
Home struck (again)
The Jones home at the junction of Rts. 44 and 49, north of Coudersport, has been struck by several motor vehicles over the years.
It happened again last Thursday night, when 41-yearold Yan Sun of Ontario, Canada, failed to stop her Toyota sedan at the intersection while southbound on Rt. 44. The car traveled through the yard of the James Jones residence and struck the house, causing minor damage. There were no injuries.
Many years ago, large concrete barriers were erected along the berm to protect the home, occupied at the time by Jack and Dolly Jones and children.
Motorcycle mishap
A Williamsville, N.Y. motorcyclist suffered minor injuries in a mishap Friday morning on Rt. 44 in Stewardson Township. Michael Wrobel was headed south when his cycle slid out of control on loose gravel.
Vehicle stolen
State police are investigating the reported theft of a vehicle that was later found wrecked on the Lyman Run Road. Benjamin Moore told officers someone stole the car from his Galeton residence.
Bad check at Reid's
A downstate man is facing criminal charges for writing a rubber check to an Emporium business and ignoring requests to make good on it.
Charges against 24-year-old Tyler B. Horton of McConnellsburg were filed with District Judge Al Brown for issuing a check for $244 with insufficient funds.
Bikes stolen
Somebody stole three youthsized bicycles from a residence on the West Branch Road in West Branch Township. The bikes, two Huffys and a Roadmaster, had been put out for a yard sale.
Hit and run
Troopers are continuing to investigate a hit and run incident involving a commercial vehicle on the Reed Run Road, near the Rt. 6 intersection, in Roulette Township.
A tractor-trailer struck a section of guardrail, causing substantial damage, and the driver failed to stop.
Emporium man charged
Sean M. Thompson, 23, of Emporium, has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, harassment and criminal mischief resulting from an incident alleged to have occurred Monday morning in the borough.
Vandalism reported
Several acts of vandalisms were reported to state police at Denton Hill by Samuel G. Glassmire, 53, of Homer Township.
Glassmire said vandals damaged fencing and a structure he owns sometime over the past three weeks.
