Charges pending in deer poaching

Two young men from Emporium will be charged with poaching a deer during the predawn hours of Aug. 26 in Portage Township.

State police from Emporium have not yet released the names of the suspects, who are being accused of shooting the antlered deer at about 4:50 near the intersection of Rt. 155 and Ensign Hollow Road. Police did confirm that other charges, including underaged drinking and/or possession of a controlled substance, are also being investigated.

Police are coordinating the investigation with the Pa. Game Commission.
