N. Tier Volleyball season underway

Sweeps were the order of the day in Tuesday night's Northern Tier High School Volleyball League openers.

Coudersport, Port Allegany and Oswayo Valley all came away with three-game wins, while Smethport won a marathon match with Northern Potter.

Coach Greg Stone's Coudersport Falcons won the first two games handily, 25-12 and 25-11, and then held on for a tight 28-26 triumph in the finale. Jessica Wilson had 10 kills to go with three aces and five points. Megan Hau finished with 15 points, five aces and two blocks. Also for the Falcons, Karli Duffee dished off 15 assists to go with seven points and two blocks. Sabrina Hershey chipped in with eight points, four kills and two aces.

For Austin, Rayna Valenti tallied 15 assists, three blocks, three kills, four points and an ace. Whitney Crosby was credited with 10 blocks, 10 assists, three kills and two points. Emily Wambaugh had nine blocks, five assists, six points and an ace.

Highly successful coach Sharon Daniels returned to the varsity ranks with Port Allegany and her Gators scored a sweep at Cameron County (1- 1), 25-15, 25-15, 25-6. Lauren Cook had seven assists, five digs, four points and one kill for the Red Raiders. Brandi Lyon tallied five digs, three points an ace and a kill. Lacey Feldbauer finished with four kills, two points and a pair of aces.

Oswayo Valley came out strong by topping Otto-Eldred, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19.

Cameron County opened its season on Saturday by beating a non-league opponent, Galeton, 27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14. Cook led the way with 10 assists, seven digs, eight points, six aces and four kills. Felbauer tallied 11 points, four aces, five kills and a block. Lyon had nine points, five aces, five kills and five digs.

Coudersport and Oswayo Valley also got things started Saturday as entrants in the Williamson Invitational Tournament. They ended up meeting in the championship game, with OV prevailing, 25-20, 26- 24.
