Teammate drivers crowned co-champions

Whenever there are two drivers racing for same team, one always seems to outshine the other. That, however, was hardly the case for the two Team 6 Emporium drivers at Kane's Allegheny Mountain Raceway.

Pure Stock rookies Mark Schweikart from Emporium and Bradley Curran Jr. from Port Allegany pulled off a rare tie in points atop the champi onship standings. At 14 and 15 years old, respectively, the two are the youngest point champions in the history of the division at the Kane oval.

While it was their first season in Pure Stocks, this was their third year of racing. They had previously competed in the 4- Cylinder Charger division, driving Chevrolet S-10 compact trucks to prepare for the larger, rear-wheel- drive, V8-powered Pure Stocks.

Schweikart (shown) and Curran took turns leading the point standings during the season. In the Sept. 2 finale, Schweikart needed a top five finish to secure the championship. He ended up working his way through the field to take sixth, while Curran took the checkered flag.

The two finished the season deadlocked with 1,063 points. Each declined an opportunity to settle the title with a headto head race.

They plan to continue their racing next season, competing in the Street Stocks division at the McKean County Fair Raceway in East Smethport.

Sponsoring both cars were Schweikart Coatings &

Services, East End Beverage, the New Penn Vend, Walker Marshall Insurance and Singer's Auto Service.

Other sponsors of Schweikart's #11 Chevrolet Monte Carlo were Buttonwood

Motel &

Restaurant, Marlee Keefer's Beauty Salon, Dave's Auto Parts, Schweikart Catering and Ted Walters.

Curran's #17 Olds Cutlass was also sponsored by Ramsey's Garage, Port Beverage, Ntch Thrift Shop, Shunk Auto Parts, Munchie's Food Shop and Crosby Cow & Coyote Hunt.
