Falcon soccer team holds on

Coudersport's Devin Matzinger controls the ball during Saturday's dramatic 3-2 victory over Port Allegany at CARP Field. The Falcons of coach Brian Empson are now 2-2.
Coming off a thrilling overtime victory over Ridgway, Coudersport's varsity soccer team (2-2) took an early lead against Port Allegany and then held off a furious assault to defeat the Gators Saturday at CARP Field, 3-2.

"I thought we had the game in hand, so I started substituting early to get everyone playing time," Coudersport coach Brian Empson said after Saturday's win. "Port Allegany came back on us and took it right down to the wire. I was pleased to see our team respond and control the game down the stretch."

Brandon Empson had a pair of goals and Brian Kane scored to account for the Falcons' offense. Zac Miller recorded just four goalie saves, as Coudersport's defense did a solid job of keeping the Gators out of the zone.

Coudersport then hosted Brockway on Tuesday and fell to the Rovers, 2-0.

Against Ridgway last week, freshman Cooper Bonczar drilled the deciding goal in double-overtime, as Coudersport escaped town with a 3-2 victory. Kane and Alex Renn scored the other goals. Once again, Miller was called upon to make just three saves thanks to solid defensive work.

Coudersport (2-1) travels to Bradford Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. game. The Falcons have a home game against Elk County Catholic on Tuesday.
