Falcons put away O-E early

Junior Tim Thomas takes off around the right side on a productive run during Friday's game at Otto-Eldred. At right, sophomore Chris Symans applies the heat on Terror quarterback Travis Bair. The Falcons exploded for a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter and coasted to a 36-0 victory. Both Coudersport and Cameron County have blanked their first two opponents of the 2007 season, setting the stage for a classic battle Friday night at CARP Field (7:00). Paul Burdick Photos
Coudersport deposited 28 points in the bank early en route to a 36-0 high school football win at Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Tight end Colton Corey caught a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Brian Wetzel while the Falcon defense pitched its second shutout in as many games.

Wetzel's 34-yard pass to Corey set up Kyle Gee's oneyard touchdown run in the visitors' first possession.

Justen Kinder intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards to the Terror three, where Tim Thomas got the call for another TD.

Moments later, Dirk Cowburn intercepted a pass and Coudersport (2-0) scored again on a Wetzel to Corey aerial covering 20 yards. Freshman kicker Cooper Bonczar drilled his third extra point, making it 21-0 with 4:08 left in the first quarter.

Two possessions later, the Falcons scored again. Cowburn broke away for a 28-yard run. Adam Foust followed with a 26-yard burst, setting up Derek Burdick's one-yard touchdown run.

Otto-Eldred, to its credit, stopped the Falcons' next two possessions with an interception and a defensive stand inside its own 10-yard line.

The Terrors maintained the momentum after the break. They sacked Wetzel and forced an unsuccessful field goal attempt, then embarked on a long drive - aided by a roughing the punter call.

After carving through the Coudersport defense, the hosts finally stalled inside the five, as Corey and Cowburn combined to keep Lucas Breese from reaching the end zone on a fourth-and-goal call.

Foust broke away for a 17- yard run to set up Wetzel's short toss to Corey, who broke into the flat and ran 67 yards for the touchdown. Corey also scooped up a low snap on the extra point attempt and scored the two-point conversion.

Coudersport finished with a 392 to 138 edge in total offense. Wetzel was sharp, hitting seven of 11 passes for 156 yards. Thomas led the running game with 93 yards on 11 carries. Gee had 14 carries for 69 yards. Foust had 36 yards on five rushes.

The defense rode a team effort to the shutout. Corey was in on nine tackles. Cowburn, Foust, Mike Dunn and Brian Smith were also effective.

After Friday night's showdown with Cameron County (2-0), the Falcons travel to St. Marys on Saturday, Sept. 22 (7:00) to meet Elk County Catholic.
