You can help

To the editor:

I recently found out how easy it is to be a bone marrow donor and want to share the information.

Thousands of people die each year because they do not receive a match. That is why it is so important to get as many people as possible in the donor registry.

Everyone knows someone touched by cancer, and joining the bone marrow bank is an easy way to help someone. It is a way to give life to someone.

To become a donor, the inside of your mouth is swabbed with cotton. This can be done by mail for a small charge. The transplant is as easy as giving blood.

Please contact the donor registry and try to help someone waiting for a transplant. Call 1-800-627- 7692 or go online at marrow.org and click on "become a donor."
