Homecoming, Leaves Festival Oct. 5-6
Event will host special guest 'Thomas Jefferson'
Coudersport's Falling Leaves Festival is shaping up as a doozy this year, combining activities with the high school's homecoming observance and hosting a special guest: Thomas Jefferson.
Activities at the county seat are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6.
The Thomas Jefferson character is actually August Jaccaci, a distinguished scholar, speaker and futurist. He dresses the part of the Founding Father and former President, sharing his wisdom about the future by calling upon a famous American from the past.
In doing so, Jaccaci inspires listeners to become involved in a mission to use politics, economics and concern for others to improve the nation.
His "Awakening America" program was created out of his knowledge and respect for Jefferson's beliefs and his personal work with great thinkers such as Margaret Mead and Buckminster Fuller.
Jaccaci will speak from the courthouse square gazebo on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. He'll also appear in Saturday's parade, which steps off at 1 p.m.
Additionally, Jaccaci is appearing for a program at the Coudersport Consistory on Thursday night, Oct. 4, and as guest of honor for a Presidential Colonial Dinner at Hotel Crittenden on Friday night, Oct. 5. Additional details are available by calling 274-4877.
The seventh annual Falling Leaves Festival begins on Friday at 9 a.m. when vendors set up at the courthouse square. There will be live music at the square Friday starting at 5 p.m.
Coudersport High School's annual homecoming football game will be held Friday night at CARP Field against Sheffield, with kickoff at 7:00. The homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime.
On Saturday, booths at the courthouse square will open at 9 a.m. There will be music at the annual Falling Leaves Festival Idol karaoke competition. Saturday's parade will include the homecoming court, high school bands, classic and antique cars, emergency service vehicles and other units.
Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Falling Leaves Festival, in cooperation with the Student Council at Coudersport Area High School.
