Archery season opens Sept. 29
      Bowhunters get the first crack at the area's deer herd starting next Saturday. They'll find a mixed bag of big bucks in some areas, with sparser whitetail populations in other sections. As always, experts say scouting is the best way to boost an archer's chances of success.

Geocaching workshop set
      Potter County Education Council is offering a GPS/ Geocaching workshop at its offices in Coudersport, Port Allegany and Galeton. Participants will learn how to use a GPS unit to navigate to a local geocache and how to create their own caches and enter them on the Internet for others to locate.
