Mentored youth pheasant hunt planned Young hunters will be able to participate in a mentored pheasant hunt in Elk County Oct. 6-12. It is sponsored by the Elk County chapter of Pheasants Forever at Johnson Run near Elbon. For more information, contact Leon Blashock at 814-885-8950 or rusty@usachoice.net. The hunt is open to those ages 12 to 16 who have successfully completed a hunter-trapper education course, and there is no requirement that they purchase a hunting license. The Game Commission will release 15,000 pheasants on land open to public hunting prior to the start of the sevenday season, and an additional 1,500 pheasants will be divided and shipped to the 18 clubs that have signed up to host a mentored youth pheasant hunt. |
