Antique Seekers meets Cameron County Antique Seekers gathered at the century-old home of Ginger Horning in Emporium last week. Among the topics of discussion was what constitutes an antique, as opposed to a collectible. Generally speaking, an antique is an item that is at least 50 years old, whereas a collectible can be of any age. Some items are specifically manufactured as collectibles in an effort to attract buyers who are speculating that they will become valuable antiques. A highlight of the meeting was the airing of a 1997 video based on the 1911 failure of the Bayless Dam, north of Austin. Attending in addition to the host were Barbara Rogers, Carol Pelton, Jennie Sebring, Carol Uzdale, Ellen Olivett, Ruth Engle, Hattie Ramarge, Jackie Rusnack and a new member, Katherine Kappel. Next Antique Seekers meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 9. |
