More access to hunting areas Susquehannock District Forester Chris Nicholas has announced a number of gated roads will be opened for additional public access during the upcoming deer hunting seasons. Each fall, a number of gated logging roads are opened to offer hunters greater access to areas with higher deer concentrations. This year, 65.5 miles will be opened to travel for licensed vehicles during the early muzzleloader season from Oct. 13 to Oct. 20. A total of 8.3 miles of roads will be opened for the first week of regular rifle season (Nov. 26 to Dec. 1) and 65.5 miles of roads will be open for the second week of regular rifle season (Dec. 3 to Dec. 8). Maps showing these roads will be posted at the District 15 office and at a number of businesses throughout Potter County. Side roads, which are not shown on the maps, are not included in the road openings. Signs will also be posted on the gates, designating those roads as open to the public. For more information, contact the district office on Denton Hill at 274-3600. |
