Guy & Mary Felt Manor wing set to open

Three residents are expected to move into the new assisted living center at Guy and Mary Felt Manor by the end of the month, according to Patty Becquet, the manor's administrative coordinator.

Eventually, the center will accommodate 10 residents. Manor officials are still awaiting a certificate of full compliance from the Pa. Dept. of Public Welfare.

Becquet said inspections revealed "three minor violations, but nothing that was critically wrong." Among these were an unneccessary space heater and a missing rail at the gazebo.

"We appreciate the patience of our residents and the community," Becquet said.

All 10 openings have been filled and a small waiting list has been started.

The center addresses a growing demand for supervised living facilities asthe Cameron County population steadily ages. Many older residents need assistance with their daily activities, but not to the point where they require the skilled care that has been provided for more than three decades in Felt Manor's original section.

Felt Manor has also renovated the 40-bed nursing home, relocating the nurses' station and expanding the dining area. Estimated price tag of the two projects was $million.
