JOBLESS RATES REMAIN HIGH

Unemployment rates in Cameron and Potter counties continue to hover well above state and national averages.

Jobless figures for August, released this week, show that 6.8 percent of Cameron County's adult population is looking for work. That's up from a July rate of 5.6 percent.

Potter County's figure is 6.7 percent, down from a high of 7.2 percent in July.

The state's unemployment rate for the same period stood at 4.5 percent. The country's jobless rate fell slightly to 4.6 percent.
