Ski Denton hosts national bike race Saturday Dozens of the best mountain bicycle racers in the northeast will tackle the trails of central Potter County on Saturday. Ski Denton, in only its second year as a mountain bikers' destination, has been chosen to host the Mid-Atlantic Super Mountain Bike Series finals, an elite race drawing competitors from several states. They'll be challenged on a certified, 50-mile-long course consisting of the resort's own trails as well as sections previously used during the former God's Country Mountain Bike Classic. It's the last of eight endurance events in the MASS series, so cyclists will be giving it their all. The race will be held rain or shine. Ski Denton managers say they've had a successful season, accommodating mountain bikers as well as tourists who want to get a look at the scenery from the summit, about 2,440 feet above sea level. From there, they can take their own bikes or rentals on upwards of 50 trails suitable for everyone from a novice to a downhill thrill-seeker, or access state forest trails with routes up to 15 miles each way. Ski Denton is open each Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional information is available at 435-2115. |
