No more orange for spring gobbler hunters Members of the Pa. Game Commission this week finally yielded on its requirement that spring gobbler hunters wear fluorescent orange. They passed a preliminary motion to eliminate the requirements. Assuming the rule change is ratified in January, spring gobbler hunters will not have to wear at least 100 square inches of blaze orange for the April 26-May 26, 2008, season. Turkey hunters have been required to wear the color while moving. "Data relating to huntingrelated shooting incidents during the spring turkey season shows that there is no clear evidence that the protective material requirement has made any appreciable reduction," said PGC Executive Director Carl G. Roe. He added that the agency will continue to recommend that turkey hunters wear orange. |
