Gladys Miller has started on her next milestone for donating blood.
Some eight pints ago, she hit the 25-gallon plateau and was honored by the American Red Cross.
On Thursday, the 89-yearold Emporium resident donated pint number 208 -- and counting!
For Gladys, it all started in 1943 when four of her brothers were in the service during World War II.
Along the way, as she has passed milestone after milestone, Gladys uses the recognition she receives to draw attention to the importance of blood donations.
"Some people are amazed the Red Cross will still accept my blood," Miller said. "Many do not realize that blood donation is allowed, as long as the donor is in good health."
Blood that is donated locally can benefit as many as three cancer victims, surgical patients or accident victims, she pointed out.
"Donating blood is simple, painless, and personally satisfying," Gladys said. "Please set aside any reason other than health problems and join this great cause."
The next Red Cross bloodmobile in Emporium is scheduled for Dec. 13.
