Elk, deer shot

State police at Emporium continue their investigation into

cruelty to animals incident taking place last weekend at the Jones Deer Farm on Sizer Run Road in Portage Township.

Police report that a bull elk and a whitetail deer belonging to Tammy Jones were shot and killed. The animals were each valued at $5,000.

Timber theft

Somebody made off with some felled timber from private property in Allegany Township.

State police from Denton Hill said that over the past month thieves took several loads of wood from a site along Cobb Hill Road. The property is owned by Lawrence Brendlinger of Genesee.

Fracas at motel

An Emporium man has been committed to the Elk County Prison after being arraigned on charges of criminal trespass and harassment.

State police at Emporium allege that Christopher Grovanz entered a room at an Emporium area motel, pushed a woman and assaulted a man. Both victims are also Emporium residents.

Teen injured

State police from Emporium report that a teenager was injured shortly before midnight on Monday when he lost control of a car after swerving to avoid a deer.

Troopers said 18-year-old Brendyn Chmelar was northbound on Rt. 155, near the Rt. 120 intersection, when he traveled off the road. The investigation continues.

Reward offered

A camp owner who is angered over the theft of a sign from his property in Sharon Township, Potter County, is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the culprit.

A six-foot by six-foot wooden post with a "Moose Crossing" sign attached was taken from the Buck Stops Here camp on Shale Road in Sharon Township. It's owned by Fred Martin of Gettysburg.

Anyone with information about the theft should call state police at the Denton Hill barracks, 274-8690.

Game law violations

Two Roulette residents face charges of spotlighting deer after legal hours.

State police from Denton Hill say Daniel Morey and Devan Tucker were apprehended at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday on White Chopin Road, Hebron Township.

Truck stolen

Theft of a pickup truck from a Roulette residence last Thursday or Friday is under investigation by state police at Denton Hill.

The 2004 dark gray Chevy Silverado, owned by Jordan Wallace, was taken from his driveway on Brophy Avenue.

Multiple charges

Emporium Borough police have charged 22-year-old Michael J. Cressley with public drunkenness, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after he allegedly damaged a vehicle belonging to Rob White, also of Emporium.

Cressley allegedly caused a disturbance in front of a tavern and used a blunt object to cause $1,106 in damage to the vehicle.

Charged with theft

South Park Lumber Supply in Emporium contacted borough police recently to complain about an act of theft.

Police then charged 19-yearold Clifford E. Akins of Emporium with three counts of theft by failure to make disposition of funds and three separate counts of theft.

In a separate case, police charged Ryan M. Snyder, 24, also of Emporium with theft after he allegedly stole a car battery from NAPA Auto Parts.

Charged with assault

A Galeton man faces seven charges stemming from an alleged assault in the borough early Sunday morning.

State police from Denton Hill cited Donald J. Jordan III, 26, for making terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal mischief, providing a false identity to police, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.

Between 3 and 3:30 a.m. on Germania Street, Jordan and a 27-year-old woman began arguing, police said. They reported that Jordan assaulted the woman. He also damaged a vehicle. He was committed to the Potter County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
