A night in a tree stand
      It was way too hot for October and definitely too hot to be hunting as I began my 500-foot ascent. I planned to hunt an area on top of a mountain where I had seen several nice bucks. White and chestnut oak trees laden with acorns surrounded a meadow that deer had been frequenting.

Grouse season opens Saturday
      About 100,000 hunters will be out on Saturday for the opening of Pennsylvania's grouse season. The first part of the three-phase season runs through Nov. 24. The season reopens Dec. 10- 22, and then again from Dec. 26 to Jan. 26.

      Susquehannock State Forest District will open several gated roads to offer hunters greater access to areas with higher deer concentrations. This year, 65.5 miles are opened to travel for licensed vehicles during the early muzzleloader season (Oct. 13- 20).
