'Wild' Christmas plans

Cameron County Christmas in the Wilds will debut this year, with activities kicking off on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Organizers from the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce hope to increase community involvement with the holiday activities.

A "Breakfast with Santa" will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the firehall.

The Christmas Parade will step off at noon and progress along Fourth Street.

Vendors will be set up at the firehall, starting at 1 p.m. There will be sledding on Broad Street and a snow- sculpting contest, weather permitting.

A holiday lighting contest will also be held, with prizes awarded in several categories. This will be highlighted by the townwide "light-up night" Dec 8. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

To conclude the day-long event schedule, a "Chamber Mixer" is planned, starting with a social hour at 6 p.m. Local businesses are encouraged to have sales, open houses and extended hours to coincide with Christmas in the Wilds.
