 | | Emporium Rotary members toured a local employer, Crowell Machine on East Second Street, where Karl Crowell (right) and wife Amy discussed the machine shop. It opened in 2000 with a few manual machines. For the first three years, Crowell relied mainly on word-of-mouth business and slowly gained a customer base. He eventually acquired a computer-controlled mill that allowed him to take on more challenging work. In 2004, his first employee was hired and, in July of this year, Crowell Machine moved to its current location. The Crowells were the guests of program chair Tom Hayden (left). |
