Bullying in school at forefront
Austin school hosts prevention program
      Austin Area School held a bullying prevention program for students in grades two through eight. It was provided through Potter County Human Services, in cooperation with local school districts, the Pa. Commission on Crime and Delinquency, and Dickinson Mental Health Services.

Volunteer Anita Chandler awarded
      Anita Chandler was honored as "woman of the year" at the anniversary dinner of Court Doyle No. 932, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Chandler is a ready volunteer for CDA, St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport and the community.

'Stakeholders' decide how railroad fine $$$ will be used

      Sinnemahoning State Park staff and volunteers teamed with the Austin Area School enrichment program for an environmental education event. Enrichment students came from Cameron County, Coudersport, Galeton and Johnsonburg.

Sentenced for cultivating pot
Woman who grew 20 plants avoids jail term
      Judge Richard Masson this week sentenced a Cameron County woman to an intermediate punishment program for growing 20 marijuana plants. Kathryn M. Thompson, 23, grew the illicit weed on her Plank Road Hollow property. She was charged with possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

      DUI charges A downstate driver faces DUI charges after being stopped by state police Saturday night on East Fork Road in Wharton Township. Jimmy D. Golden, 49, of Dallastown was stopped for an equipment violation. A test of his blood alcohol content led police to file charges.

Businesses planning 'shop at home' campaign
      Several Coudersport area businesses are banding together for a "shop at home" campaign, combined with a fund-raiser for a local charity. Holiday Shopping Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3. Plans were discussed at Tuesday's Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Fire strikes Coudersport home
      A Coudersport man lost many of his possessions in a fire that gutted his apartment last Thursday night. Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department responded to the structure on East Second Street in the community of Ladona. The rental unit is owned by Martin Wennin and was occupied by James Mackey.

Planning director named
Dietrich to head Potter County Planning Agency

      Members of the Potter County Board of Commissioners filled the county planning director vacancy from within. At last week's business meeting, Commissioners Ken Wingo, Cathy Bowers and John Torok appointed Charlotte Dietrich to the post, at an annual salary of $34,280.
