Austin hosts enrichment program
Sinnemahoning State Park staff and volunteers teamed with the Austin Area School enrichment program for an environmental education event.
Enrichment students came from Cameron County, Coudersport, Galeton and Johnsonburg.
Staff and volunteers of Sinnemahoning State Park, under the direction of Jackie Flynn, environmental education specialist, discussed several aspects of the park and its inhabitants.
Students were taken on a pontoon boat ride on the George B. Stevenson Dam impoundment. Some were able to see the resident pair of bald eagles and other park inhabitants.
Park volunteer Bill Daily introduced students to geocaching and the use of a global positioning satellite systems to locate objects placed in the park.
A separate program acquainted the groups with local owl populations. Students also learned about bird migration and the local bird population.
