'Boxtop' project underway at school

Austin Area School student Whitney Crosby is working with the "Box Tops for Educa- tion" program for her graduation project.

Box tops from dozens of brand-name products can be donated to earn 10 cents each for the school district. These products include cereals, dairy products, processed meals, frozen foods, snacks, baking products, baby and child care products, storage bags, containers and wraps, paper products, personal care items, disposable tableware and waste bags and cookies.

Whitney's theme is "Touchdown for Education." Each class receives a yard on the football field for each box top they bring in. The class with the most yards/points will receive a Super Bowl Party at the end of January.

She has collected 1,000 box tops so far and is hoping for at least another thousand. Students and teachers will be polled to see what they need for their classrooms.

Similar collections have resulted in the purchase of overhead projectors, televisions and DVD/VCR players for each classroom.
