ELECTION TUESDAY CAMERON COUNTY Political observers around Cameron County are forecasting a "fair" turnout for Tuesday's Municipal Election. A five-way race for the three seats on the Board of County Commissioners and a six-man scramble for four Emporium Borough Council seats top the ballot. Polls are open in each of the county's 10 voting districts from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Republican Glen Fiebig is the lone incumbent commissioner seeking re-election. JoAnn Smith is the other Republican nominee. Democratic nominees are Philip Jones and Thomas Callahan. Michael Songer is running as an Independent. Voters can select up to two of the five. The top three vote-getters will serve a four-year term that starts in January. There's also a race for county auditor, where the nominees are Democrat Barbara Smith, Republicans Donald Hoy and Kimberlea Whiting, and Independent David McManigle. Voters may select up to two. Independent Paul Malizia is unopposed for Cameron County District Attorney. Incumbent Tommy Tompkins was nominated for another four-year term in May, but withdrew from the ballot without explanation. Republican Staci Stuart-Brown is unopposed for another term as county treasurer. Cameron County Coroner Ted Walters, a Democrat, is unopposed in his bid for re-election. Candidates for auditor are Margo B. Germino and Mike Fowler, Democrats, and Patricia A. Nichols and Pauline A. Kleintop, Republicans. In each of those two races, voters may cast up to two ballots.
