New doctor arrives at Cole

Dr. Rafael Meller
There's an addition to the medical staff at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.

Rafael Meller, M.D., specializes in internal medicine and geriatrics. His office is located in the Patterson Cancer Care Center.

Dr. Meller received his medical degree from the University of Passo Fundo in Brazil. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the New York Medical College in New York City. In July, Dr. Meller completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Loyola University.

He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board-eligible in geriatric medicine.

In addition to his practice in internal medicine, Dr. Meller will also offer specialty services in geriatrics. Geriatricians provide care for old age and aging people. A geriatrician works closely with other health care professionals including other physicians, therapists, home care agencies, pain clinics and support groups, to meet the needs of each patient.

Common ailments that a geriatrician will address include Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, arthritis, falls and fall prevention, chronic heart and lung disease, general decline, impaired overall function, incontinence, osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, sensory problems (vision and hearing) and stroke.

Appointments can be scheduled with Dr. Meller by calling 260-5208.
