$3.4M gets 'Taj Mahal'
Building narrowly escapes demolition

Now it can be told . . .

Among the companies with a strong interest in purchasing the massive Adelphia Operations Building in downtown Coudersport was a firm that intended to demolish the structure and sell it for salvage.

However, that option moved off the table once the bidding passed the $3 million mark.

As it stands now, the Adelphia estate has attracted a bid of $3.4 million from an unidentified investor. Inside sources say that the deal, if it goes through, would lead to jobs, but no specifics are available.

That building was once a plush $30 million headquarters for one of the world's biggest cable television companies. About 30 employees remain employed there with the Adelphia estate as the sale process winds down.

Adelphia selected Internet real estate auction specialist LFC Online to sell most of its remaining real estate assets. Proceeds will be used to settle with creditors as the company emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and dissolves.

Almost 100 properties located in several states, including both raw land and developed sites, are being unloaded.

The Operations Building and scattered other Coudersport properties are among those that are up for auction on LFC's website (lfc.com).

One of the parcels, the former International Paper Company property on East Second Street, is being sold to the Potter County Redevelopment Authority and will be leased to an employer, AP Wagner.

That firm is moving from the Industrial Park on Coudersport's west end to the International building. Another company, not yet identified, will occupy the current Wagner building.

Another property, the former Job Service building and garage at North West and West Second streets, is being sold to an unidentified buyer for $101,000; it had an appraised value of $300,000.

Adelphia is also trying to sell the former Kightlinger Motors/ Robbins Chevrolet property at Mill and Dwight streets, appraised at $140,000, and the former Alliance Church/ Dorellenic property on West Third Street, appraised at $204,000.
