Coudersport gets sweet revenge

Thursday night's win on the home floor was especially pleasing to Coudersport volleyball coach Greg Stone.

Most importantly, it kept his Falcons alive in the PIAA District 9 playoffs. Additionally, it was a measure of revenge against a Port Allegany team that dealt Coudersport (16-1) its only Northern Tier League loss of the season two weeks earlier on the same court.

Stone knew he needed a team effort to knock off the Gators and he got it, recording an efficient 25-21, 25-13, 25- 21 sweep.

Junior Sabrina Hershey recorded 28 digs to go with four kills and 12 service points (3 aces). Reigning Northern Tier League MVP Jessica Wilson slammed 18 kills, with 21 digs and five points. Melissa Gerner had five kills and served for seven points (2 aces). Karli Duffee dished out 18 assists. Megan Hau had 14 points (4 aces) and four kills. Jordan Bright contributed six kills and five points.

"We did a great job of playing defense tonight and digging up some of Port Allegany's hard attacks," Stone said.

Coudersport rolls into Saturday's D9 semifinals at St. Marys Public High School, with an opening match at 9:30.

The Falcons opened playoff competition with a one-sided win over visiting Clarion- Limestone Tuesday. Aggressive serving kept the Lions off-balance. Gerner had 20 points (8 aces) and Duffee recorded 24 assists.
