NEW COMMISSIONERS Voters in Potter and Cameron counties have chosen new leadership to take control in January. There's a complete turnover on the Potter County Board of Commissioners, while two newcomers are coming aboard in Cameron County. In Potter, Republicans Doug Morley and Paul Heimel will join former commissioner Susan Sullivan Kefover, a Democrat, to serve a four-year term. Incumbents Ken Wingo (D) and John Torok (R) were beaten in the primary election. The other incumbent, Cathy Bowers (D), fell in Tuesday's municipal election. Unofficial vote totals were: Morley 2,557, Heimel 2,407, Kefover 1,897 and Bowers 1,186. Another 748 write-in votes were recorded, many of them for Dr. Robert Wagner, a physician who mounted a late write-in candidacy. Cameron County voters returned Republican Glen Fiebig for another term. He'll be joined by Republican JoAnn Smith and Democat Phil Jones. Odd men out are Tom Callahan (D) and Mike Songer (Independent). According to the unofficial count, Smith received 979 votes, followed by Fiebig with 669 and Jones with 473. Callahan missed out by less than 40 votes, finishing with 434. Songer received 397. Smith and Jones replace incumbents Tony Moscato and Pat Rodgers, who chose not to run for re-election. Cameron County reported that 42.5 percent of registered voters, or 1,576 of 3,701, turned out on Tuesday. In Potter County, 4,963 of the 11,163 registered voters (45 percent) cast ballots. Among local races, Micki (Dubots) Brown apparently earned a seat on the Coudersport Area School Board through a write-in candidacy. Unofficial totals show Brown finishing second behind Scott Bruzzi, but ahead of Rick Angood, whose name appeared on the ballot. Former Coudersport Borough Councilman George Hults is returning to the organization. He and incumbent Andy Dubots, the council president emerged victorious in a three-man race for two seats. Incumbent Shane Wilson was defeated. In Emporium, the four winners for seats on Borough Council were Joseph Fragale (341 votes), Richard Bauer (313), Randy Frey (310) and Rick Vassallo (278). Don Olivett finished just out of the running with 267, while Pat Garrigan trailed with 228. Shippen Township voters returned Democrat Jack McAulay as tax collector over Republican Mary Lee Uber by a 433-270 margin. Elizabeth Woomer (D) was elected tax collector over Scott Mason (R) in Gibson Township, 33-19. All of the results are unofficial, pending certification from each county's canvassing and computing board. |
