More than a buck contest! Endeavor News will team up with members of the Sweden Feedin' Club to sponsor the first Big Woods Whitetail Classic when deer season begins Nov. 26. The outdoor event, which will be held at the Beef & Ale House at the corners of routes 872 and 6 just outside of Coudersport, will feature several harvest competitions, as well as other outdoor attractions. A biggest buck contest will be held through both weeks of the deer rifle season. It is being sponsored by this newspaper, Perry's Sports Store in Austin and the Sweden Feedin' Club. Paul and Pat Perry, owners of Perry's Sports Store, have donated a Savage 300 magnum rifle that will be awarded to the hunter who wins the antler division in the contest. Antler score will be tabulated by adding the number of antler points to size of the antler's outside spread at its widest point (in inches). The winner of the weight division will receive a full Gore-Tex hunting outfit, including boots. Winner will be able to select his or her outer wear directly through Gore- Tex after the hunt. Retail value of the suit is close to $1,000. Second place winner in the antler division will receive a $100 off coupon for a head mount at Gary Clark Taxidermy in Cameron County. Second place winner in the weight division will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to South Park Supply in Emporium. The gift certificate can be used in the business' sporting goods department or in its hardware store. During the first three days of the hunt, Sweden Feedin' Club will give cash prizes for the smallest buck entered into the contest each day. The group will also give a cash prize to the hunter who kills and enters the largest (heaviest) coyote. To enter the contest, hunters must take their deer in either Potter or Cameron counties. To be eligible for prizes, successful hunters must register their buck and sign the Big Woods Whitetail Classic Roster Board. All hunters who enter the contest will receive their official Big Woods Whitetail Classic registration photo FREE. They will also have the opportunity to have additional prints made on site. Hunters who use one of the three coupons on their registration form, will also be entered into daily drawings for outdoor-related gift items the first three days of the hunt. Among the items that will be given away are a lightweight, camouflage hunting seat, a hand-made turkey call and other similar prizes. The coupons are for specials at the restaurant, membership to the Sweeden Feedin' Club and for discounted subscription options to this newspaper. In addition to those drawings, the Sweden Feedin' Club will raffle a Savage .204 (with scope), an inline .50 caliber, a pair of 10x50 field binoculars, a $100 gift certificate to WalMart and $100 worth of coupons donated by the Coudersport Chamber of Commerce. Drawings for each will be held Dec. 9 at 7 pm at the Beef & Ale House. Organizers set out to create an event that would be interesting and fun not only for successful buck hunters, but also for sports and outdoors people who are interested in keeping track of the bucks that are being taken. The Beef & Ale House has provided its entire downstairs to house the extra-curricular activities at the event. Hunting videos will be shown on a 52-inch flat panel television inside through the first three days of the season. A roster board containing each registered hunter's name, address, size of the buck taken and other hunt information will be located inside for people interested in following the local harvest. A full color photograph will accompany each successful hunter's registration information on the board. For more information on the event, see page 12 in this edition.
