Back-to-back touchdowns early in the second quarter gave Cameron County some breathing room on its way to a 28-0 whitewash of visiting Keystone in a PIAA District 9 high school football playoff game Saturday night.
It was another dominating performance by the Big Red defense, propelling the Raiders (10-1) into a D9 semifinal showdown against Redbank Valley Saturday at 2 p.m. on the artificial turf at Clarion University Memorial Field.
Keystone had just seven first downs and finished with minus-seven yards on the ground. Quarterback Dan Reed was sacked five times and hit just seven of 27 passes.
Abram Zoschg broke loose for a 65-yard touchdown run to stake the hosts to a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Quarterback Jordan Crane doubled that margin on a 13-yard touchdown run early in the second period.
Cameron County surprised the Panthers with an onside kick and recovered at the visitors' 40. Crane promptly hit Sean McManigle on a touchdown pass, then fired a strike to Mike Malizia for the conversion.
The way the Raider defense was playing, a 20-0 lead was insurmountable. The Panthers had a net six yards of offense and one first down in the first half.
Zoschg finished with 171 yards on 14 carries. He sealed the win in the third quarter by intercepting one of Reed's passes and returning it 30 yards for a touchdown.
Crane hit six of his first eight passes for 90 yards. He also intercepted a Keystone pass. McManigle led all receivers with 68 yards on three catches.
