Changeover on Cameron County School Board
By James Moate Endeavor News

At this month's Cameron County Area School Board meeting, the three outgoing board members were presented with replica school bells as an appreciation gift. These momentoes are metal bells with long wooden handles that were once rung to bring in children from recess. Each bell was engraved with the recipient's name and years of service. Three Cameron County Area School Board members who are completing their service to the district were recognized by the board at its November meeting.

Terms of directors Paul Malizia, Bill Bogart and Vanessa Bidwell expire in December. They're being replaced by Missy Whitcomb, Nick Botera Jr. and Amber Beldin.

In other business, school officials announced that the district was recognized by the Pa. Dept. of Education for "adequate yearly progress" on standardized tests for the second consecutive year.

Security matters at home sporting events was discussed. Among options is the possibility of administrators volunteering to monitor the events. The board agreed to donate $250 to Emporium Volunteer Fire Department in appreciation of fire police involvement at home football games.

Revisions were approved to the student discipline, professional employment and acceptable Internet usage policies. Further revisions will be considered at the board's Dec. 3 meeting.

Members agreed to increase the "weight" of the college English course from a level three to a level five. This will give students who are serious about their grades more incentive to take the course.

Alan Lovell was added to the substitute teacher list.
