Emporium Legion Post could close Tuesday is the day of reckoning for American Legion Post 194 in Emporium. Members will be meeting to determine whether the Olkosky-Jessup Post can continue to operate in the face of declining participation. Post 194 must notify national headquarters of its leadership structure by early December. Post Commander Michael Fapore and Adjutant Maxwell Narby recently notified the post's approximately 100 members that they will not accept re-election for the 2008- 09 membership year. They're hoping others will step up. Post 194 traces its history to 1919, when a group of World War I veterans created the post. The post was revitalized in 2002 after membership declined, but has seen interest in leadership roles diminish in more recent years. |
