CC girls expect improvement

High school basketball season is opening across the region. Lacey Feldbauer (10) is among the letter-winners returning to action for the Cameron County girls, who will participate in the Brockway Tip-Off Tournament this weekend. The Red Raiders are coached by Dave Sullivan, who replaced long-time coach Pat Lewis. Lewis is coaching Penn State DuBois in its inaugural season of women's basketball.
Just one starter was lost to graduation from the girls' basketball team at Cameron County High School.

Dave Sullivan, former assistant coach, has been elevated to the head coach position vacated by Pat Lewis, who moved on after 25 years at the helm.

Lewis, now coaching the new women's basketball team at Penn State DuBois, has hardly left the cupboard bare.

One of the region's top rebounders, Kristin Sestina (6- 0), is back for her senior year after earning Northern Tier League all-star honors last season.

Also back is senior forward Whitney Lewis, who received honorable mention. Sestina and Lewis each averaged more than eight points per game last season.

Five other regulars from the improvement

2006-07 team are back: seniors Bethany Dunsmore, Brittany Lundberg and Lacey Feldbauer, along with juniors Shelby Summers and Molly Fragale. Sophomore Bre Dunsmore is also back with experience and another sophomore, Kelsey Caton, should see some action at guard.

Cameron County expects to improve on last year's 9-16 mark. The Red Raiders open their season this weekend at the Brockway Tournament and make their home court debut Wednesday night against St. Marys Public, followed by another home game next Friday with Johnsonburg.
