Reloaded Falcon girls will see action Tuesday Coudersport has beefed up its non-league schedule to better prepare the girls for the basketball battles to come. Coach Brian Green has plenty of talent back for this year's run, which could include another Northern Tier League championship and success in the postseason. The Falcons travel to Olean (N.Y.) High School Tuesday night, followed by an appearance in the St. Marys Tournament next Friday and Saturday. First home game is Dec. 12 against Wellsboro. Two Northern Tier League all-stars, Kristy Kamper (MVP) and Jessica Wilson, are back for their senior seasons. Pesky guard Kelly McVay and steady Jordan Bright, also seniors, also return. So do juniors Karli Duffee, Kayla Bohn, Sabrina Hershey and Stephanie Kelley. For depth, Green can turn to another guard, sophomore Maureen McCusker, and a couple of freshmen being promoted from junior varsity, Jenna Matzinger and Tori Brown. Defensively, Coudy should be a well-oiled machine, forcing turnovers and otherwise giving opponents fits. Wilson and Kamper are double-figure scorers with solid rebounding skills. Duffee gives the Falcons a three-point shooting threat. Coudersport waltzed through the regular season with a 25-1 mark last year, losing only to Class AAA Bradford, and finished 27-3. The Falcons fell to Union in the District 9 championship game and were knocked out of the state playoffs by Eisenhower. This year's team has the potential to match or exceed that level of success. |
