'Project Hat Tree' helps children

Terri Housler, one of the founders of Project Hat Tree, is shown next to the tree where donations of hats, gloves, boots and other winter items are being collected. The tree is located in the entrance of the George B. Erskine Wellness Center along Sizerville Road-across from the baseball fields.
George B. Erskine Wellness Center, Emporium Physical Therapy and Emporium Health Center are again joining together to sponsor "Project Hat Tree," which benefits the children of Cameron County.

Project Hat Tree was started last year by Terri Housler and Carole Gibbs because they had witnessed many children who didn't have sufficient clothing for the winter weather.

A Christmas tree at the entrance of the health center on Sizerville Road is being decorated with donations of winter warmth items. Hats, mittens, gloves, scarves or boots are welcome. Homemade items are also welcome.

All items will be gathered together before Dec. 14. Distribution takes place through the Cameron County Chapter of the Salvation Army.

Anyone who has items to be picked up should call Terri at 486-1595 or Carol at 486-1321.

Northwest Savings Bank is also sponsoring a Salvation Army project. "Christmas Is For Kids!" is a project designed to help underprivileged children in Cameron County have a better Christmas.

Donations of toys can be dropped off at the bank, located on the corner of Broad and Fourth Street in Emporium.

All donations must be made before Dec. 14.
